From Bland To Yummy: How to Eat Healthy Without Sacrificing Flavour

There is a persistent myth that healthy food has to be bland and flavourless. After all, how else will the nutrients get to you? But the truth could not be further from that. There are a lot of ways to make healthy food taste and look great. Using the right ingredients and a little bit of creativity can help you get a lot more out of the food you buy and ensure that you are eating well. A lot of diets require adherence by sacrificing carb and sugar intake.

However, this is can be easily accomplished by using certain ingredients. Put some protein in the mix, and you have the makings of healthy and tasty recipes. Here are some ideas to get you started on the journey to yummy eating:

1) Experiment with heat

A lot of diets will ask you to give up sugar and carbs. This might seem difficult initially, but the key is to replace these foods with healthier options such as increasing protein. And to make things more interesting, why not experiment with the way you cook? For example, skinless and boneless chicken breasts tend to taste great when grilled or broiled. Or similarly, if you go for fish, why not try pan-searing or baking it? Add some fresh veggies in the mix, and you have a main and a side free of sugar and carbs but packed with nutrients!

2) Jazz up your vegetables

A lot of the myth of boring eating comes from the way veggies are approached in food. Although veggies may not seem very exciting, they can be! For example, caramelized onions are a great way to add a naturally sweet taste to meals. Slice some onions and cook them with a dash of oil in low heat. You can use these to make lettuce wraps with chicken or make a sauce for poultry. Similarly, instead of boiling veggies, why not try roasting them in the oven? You can add some herbs and seasoning such as salt and pepper as a side for your dishes.

3) Add some citrus

Lemon and lime are two incredibly versatile ingredients that can kick flavour profiles into high gear. You can squeeze some fresh lemon juice on to your meals as a finishing touch. Or you can make a lot of different marinades for chicken with simple ingredients such as olive oil, sea salt, and black pepper. If you are looking to add some more protein in your diet while still keeping it tasty, lemons might be the right solution. Lemons can also be a great addition for salads since you can mix them with herbs and olive oil as a dressing.

4) Replace dessert with fruit

For those with a sugar craving, the switch from dessert to fruit will likely end up being the best option. It might be hard to replace your sweet tooth cravings with fruit initially, but it will be better for your health. And fruit does not have to be boring either! There are lots of ways to incorporate fruits as a viable dessert option. For example, mangos with a squeeze of lime on top are great for a tangy after-dinner treat. Or mixing some berries with yogurt in the morning with some granola for a sweet morning pick-me-up.
